The Early Bird Kit
I love the idea behind your program, but I don’t know where or how to start. Can you please help?
The box comes with a pamphlet that gives you details on how to start the program. All the sets of cards come clearly marked, with instructions that will guide you further. Just remember that it is meant to be easy and most of all fun for both the parent and the infant.
I just heard about Infant Stimuli's flashcard program, and my baby is already 8 months old. Can I still use The Early Bird Kit?
The program is very flexible and can be started at any age. If you have only found it when your child is slightly older, that shouldn’t stop you from starting on this journey. The box comes with a pamphlet that goes through this scenario so you know how to ease your child into the program.
I missed a day – do I need to start from the beginning?
No you don’t, you may carry on from where you stopped. The program isn’t a strict curriculum, it is a long term commitment through which you can unlock the capabilities that are present within your baby’s brain.
I go through all the cards really quickly, what should I do next?
Our advice is that you repeat the set for that particular day up to two times during the day. This is generally a problem when babies become a little more interactive and start to enjoy the process – they always want more. You should continue till the point you feel that your baby has lost interest and you can always repeat the cards later.
I try to engage my baby, but he/she doesn’t want to pay attention and is easily distracted. Is this program for us?
This is absolutely normal as babies have a very short attention span. When showing the cards make sure that you are in a comfortable setting and your baby is ready for some fun with the flashcards. Avoid other visual distractions such as the tv in the background. Even if you are in the best of environments, do not forget that babies are in fact little humans and maybe just aren’t interested in the activity at the given time. You can always try later when your baby seems more receptive. Perseverance is key!
I mixed up the cards by mistake and now I don’t know which card belongs to which day. Do I have to stop using the program?
No you do not. The basic premise of the program is stimulating your child in a way that is engaging. It should be fun and easy for the child but also stress free for the caregiver. The cards come pre-packaged so that it is easy for the parent to start right away and not waste time trying to sort through all the categories. You have a toddler and things will get messy – it is inevitable. The most important thing is that the baby is being introduced to all the concepts at a young age.
My baby seems more interested in the cards that have illustrations on them. Should I just ignore the other cards and concentrate on the ones she likes?
Keep including them in the program. Our toddlers used to actively push aside the cards with the Dolch words or numbers because they couldn’t get enough of the animals and vegetables, etc. We mixed the cards up so that they don't know what to expect – it keeps him guessing and engaged.
Babies can’t read – Why should I show my baby cards with words on them?
The goal of The Early Bird Kit is to help maximize the potential of the right brain. This unique window of opportunity exists only in the first three years of life as infants and toddlers are primed to process information using the right side of their brain. At that age, learning is primarily image based and therefore what we read as words is actually being captured as in image by the mind of a baby. This helps in further developing skills such as speed reading, enhanced focus and memory recall.
I am unable to show the cards at such a fast speed. Is it even worth it for me to do this program with my baby?
The method through which the program is administered is important and we would suggest that you try to keep up with the speed as that is what helps tap into the power of the right brain. However, if you feel like you can’t flip through the cards as fast – that’s also ok. The important thing is that your baby is introduced to all new concepts through the use of the flash cards.
